What We Carry Home

Welcome to Author Lya Badgley’ s monthly newsletter that explores culture and creativity.

Venice with family

During a recent visit to Venice with my family, we stayed in an apartment in Castello, a beautiful district where we could get a sense of how the locals live. I hope to return some day to burrow in.

Our visit included the Biennale

The Serbian Pavilion was a bittersweet experience

Predrag Djaković – Through Golgotha to Resurrection gathers photographs, maps, and documents around suitcases, accompanied by piano music in A minor. The work evokes lives uprooted by exile and forced migration, including journeys home that could never be completed. What we carry home depends, of course, on whether we can return. A suitcase holds what there was time to pack; much of what we carry has no weight, takes up no room, and cannot ever be put down.

Thank you, as always, for reading and for being part of this journey.

Warmly,
Lya
